Peasant!
A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux
On your first night, a party of adventurers kicks in your door, beats you senseless, eats your cheese and walks off with your trousers. And the door. They call it a quest. You call it burglary. All they left behind was a slingshot.
Peasant! is a dungeon crawler told from the NPC's side. You're the poor sod who lives in the dungeon, and every other night another gang of knights, rogues, archers, barbarians, mages and clerics shows up thinking your farm is a treasure chest with a thatched roof. Fortify it. Defend it. Then work out what to do with all the bodies.
Features
- Bullet-hell farm defence. Dodge-roll through knife fans, arrow volleys, axe spins and exploding magic circles. Sprint when you have to, and don't let your stamina run dry. Shoot them in the eye for a crit, or sneak up from the tall grass and hit them before they know you're there.
- Build by day, fight by night. Add rooms, upgrade your fence from wood to stone to steel, set traps, hire guards, keep a war pig. Shoot through your own windows. The adventurers will shoot back.
- Deal with the bodies. Every dawn you choose: bury them, burn them, butcher them, or ring the City officials and fill in Form 27B in triplicate. Each choice slowly turns your cosy farm into a Necromancer's Lair, an Ember Throne or a Temple of Blood. Dark gods will notice and offer you a deal.
- A town to waste your money in. Walk down the road to Grimholt. Visit the blacksmith and the church, buy a noble title, bribe the Adventurers' Guild, or pick up gear Dodgy Dave swears isn't stolen. At the Drowned Rat you can drink Old Tom under the table or pick a fight with Big Sven.
- Bosses with egos. Sir Reginald the Entitled. Dova-Kim the Kleptomaniac. The Goose. Sturtis the Druid. Kim Diamond and Vetleticus the bard.
- 130 pieces of loot, and you wear all of it. Rusty helmets, skull masks, crowns and glowing slings, in five gear sets. Swap the slingshot for a crossbow, a wizard's staff or a pitchfork and you fight a completely different way.
- Seven skill trees. Magic, Slingshot, Ammo, Survival, Butchery, Traps and Command, plus a dark tree for each kind of corruption.
- Grudges. Adventurers who get away come back as named nemeses ("Gary the Unkillable"). Get a big enough bounty on your head and the Guild sends hunters after you. Some adventurers are influencers who livestream the whole robbery.
- Farm life, sort of. Grow cabbages, pumpkins and screaming mandrakes. Put up with rain, fog, blood moons, tax night, drunken festivals, travelling merchants, witches, nosy neighbours and Kevin.
- Fully voiced and very rude. The adventurers swap war stories round the campfire, the peasant talks himself into madness, and the City officials want you to stop being so adventurist.
- Rogue-lite progression. Bank grudges when you die and spend them on gold, skills, heirlooms and new characters (Gertrude and Grandpa Ebbe). Finish the story on night 30, then keep going in endless mode. Three difficulties, from Story to Brutal.
